Emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere. So when you're driving around Turnersville, Mount Laurel, or Cherry Hill, be prepared by keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle to ensure your safety.
While you can buy a pre-made emergency car kit, you do have the option of creating your own. If you do make your own, consider making sure these five items are in your kit.
Jumper Cables
Jumper cables come in handy when your vehicle won't start because the battery has died. Just connect one end of the positive cable (red) to the positive post of the dead battery and the other end to a functioning battery. Then do the same with the negative cable (black) and try to start the vehicle. You also can look into a self-charging setup for jumping your vehicle in case another vehicle isn't available to help you.
Cell Phone Charger
Cell phones are ubiquitous, so it's worth your while to keep a portable cell phone charger in your emergency kit, especially since you won't be able to find a standard outlet if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere. And just like your flashlight, you should periodically inspect your cell phone charger to make sure it's ready to go when you need it.
Shovel
Keep a small portable shovel in your emergency kit to help dig your vehicle out of the snow during the wintertime or to put down gravel or kitty litter when it's icy. The shovel also can help if your vehicle gets stuck in mud or another similar terrain.
Jack
While your Subaru likely will come with a spare tire for emergencies, it may not come with a jack to help you exchange a flat tire for the spare. If this is the case, make sure to add a jack to your emergency kit so you can change your own flat tire and don't need to contact and then wait for roadside assistance.
Flashlight
A flashlight comes in handy if you break down during the night or if you need to check out something under the hood of your vehicle or under the vehicle itself. But it's also important to periodically check the batteries in the flashlight so it'll work when you need it to.
You never know when an emergency may happen, so be prepared by including an emergency kit in your Subaru vehicle to help get through tough situations. You can get a kit from your local dealership, but if you want to make your own, be sure to add the five items listed above so you're prepared when you need it the most!
