The Subaru Forester is one of the most popular Subaru models, thanks to its combination of a compact body style, advanced safety features and exceptional all-wheel drive capability. But for the first time, Subaru has launched a Forester SUV with a pure hybrid powertrain. It's equipped with Subaru's proven flat-four internal combustion engine along with two electric motors to deliver greater fuel efficiency while maintaining the Forester's off-road capability. Here's a closer look at the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid that's available right now at Prestige Subaru of Turnersville, NJ.
What's new for 2025?
The Subaru Forester Hybrid is an all-new model, introduced for the 2025 model year. It gets the same exterior design and chassis as the gas-powered Forester model. The hybrid powertrain is a completely new offering that arrives just in time for the massive surge of interest in pure hybrids. Subaru's patented Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system comes standard, of course, and a hands-free foot-activated power tailgate is an available option. The Subaru Forester Hybrid offers Washington Township, buyers a new electric power steering system that's shared with Subaru's dynamic WRX rally car.
Performance
The powertrain in the Subaru Forester Hybrid is comprised of a 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine that operates with the efficient Atkinson cycle in combination with a pair of electric motors. One motor delivers power to the wheels and the other serves as a motor generator. The Subaru Forester Hybrid is equipped with a sealed lithium battery and it's characterized by Subaru as a series-parallel system. In other words, the powertrain can toggle back and forth between the engine and the two electric motors to send power to the wheels based on current driving conditions.
The result is a combined 194 horsepower, which is 14 more than the gas-powered version of the Forester. The major benefit of a pure hybrid is that you don't have the hassle of having to recharge the battery. Instead, it happens automatically through a combination of power from the engine and a regenerative braking system. Standard features include a continuously variable transmission and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, two things that Subaru fans in Deptford Township, NJ fans will appreciate.
Fuel economy
Thanks to the powertrain, the Subaru Forester Hybrid gives you better fuel efficiency than the gas-driven Forester. In fact, the EPA estimates the 2025 Forester Hybrid will give you up to 40% better fuel economy. That means a remarkable 35 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway, which means you can drive a long way before visiting a gas station.
Exterior Design
The 2025 Subaru Forester features an attractive exterior with elements like contoured lines, plus distinctive design touches like geometric trim accents, headlights and front grille. The all-new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid also offers Sicklerville, NJ customers an exclusive black roof paint option that helps set this SUV even further apart from the pack.
Interior and technology
The new 2025 Forester Hybrid comes with a new 11.6-inch infotainment screen, and it includes Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The Forester Hybrid has a little less cargo space than the non-hybrid Forester because of the space required for the battery under the floor. But Williamstown, NJ owners will have enough space for cargo with the 27.5 cubic feet the Forester Hybrid provides behind the second row.
Safety features
The new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid comes with Subaru's proprietary EyeSight® system of camera-based safety features. That includes standard automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
