Difference Between the Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Outback

"What's the difference between the Subaru Crosstrek and the Subaru Outback?" is a common question we get here at Prestige Subaru. However, the answer isn't as simple as many in Turnersville, Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel think.

Both vehicles offer a distinct performance and their own list of features and technologies, but we can help you understand the difference between the Subaru Crosstrek and the Subaru Outback. All you have to do is read the guide below!

Exterior and Size

The Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Outback may look similar but, upon closer inspection, you'll notice some key differences. For example, each vehicle has a different front grille design. However, the most notable difference between the two is their exterior dimensions. The Outback is about 14 inches longer, two inches wider, and six inches taller than the Crosstrek.

But, the Crosstrek's smaller body isn't a bad thing. Those commuting to and from Philly for work will love its exterior dimensions. Since it's more compact, it's the perfect car to get around those city streets and tight parking spots.

Crosstrek vs Outback: Interior

The Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Outback come with many of the same interior features and technologies. For example, they both include the STARLINK™ infotainment system with safety and security packages and a voice-activated navigation system.

However, they don't share the same interior design. The Subaru Outback comes with more luxurious accents like wood trims and more premium materials, and the Subaru Crosstrek has a sportier interior design

On top of that, the Outback has more passenger and cargo space.

The Crosstrek and the Outback are equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which means they're both capable of taking on any road and weather condition. They're also powered by Subaru BOXER® engines.

The one in the Crosstrek gets 148 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 34 highway mpg when paired with is Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission. The Crosstrek also offers a hybrid powertrain for enhanced efficiency.

The Subaru Outback comes standard with a 2.5L BOXER® engine that gets 175 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 33 highway mpg. Its available 3.6L BOXER® engine generates 256 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 27 highway mpg.

Award-Winning Safety

Subaru models are known for their dependability. So it's no surprise that the Outback and the Crosstrek were named Insurance Institute Top Safety Picks+ for 2016 and received 5-Star Overall Crash Safety Ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On top of that, both crossovers are equipped with the same protective safety features and the EyeSight® system of driver assist technologies for your peace of mind. The only difference in safety between the two is that the Subaru Outback offers the EyeSight® system on more trim levels than the Crosstrek.
