Let's face it. No matter how carefully you try to maintain the interior of your vehicle, it almost never fails. At some point, your vehicle will likely be the victim of some type of stain. If you use your vehicle quite often, smoke tobacco products in it, or consume foods and beverages in it, the likelihood that your vehicle will suffer from staining is even more probable. Sadly, some stains may be more severe or even more stubborn than others. What is even worse is that even if you are extremely careful not to smoke or spill anything in your car's interior, if you live in an area where there is a lot of snow or ice and salt is used to maintain the roadways, you could be in for a big surprise. The very salt that is used to prevent accidents could very well become your car interior's worst nightmare. So how do you remove salt stains in your vehicle's interior?

There are a number of commercial cleaners on the market today that are designed specifically to remove stains from a vehicle's interior. While some can certainly live up to their claims of stubborn stain removal, salt is in a class all its own. In order to remove salt stains from your vehicle's interior, it is a good idea to consider these tips:
- Road salt responds best and dissolves more quickly in cooler water.
- Most commercial cleaners are packed with harmful chemicals that can further damage your car's interior.
- The chemicals used in most commercial cleaners are not designed for the removal of road salt.

In order to remove salt from your car's interior, you should:
- Gather ingredients including cool water, carpet shampoo, a vacuum, white distilled vinegar, sponges or cloths, and a bucket.
- To begin, vacuum as much of the road salt from your interior as possible.
- Add about 1/2 cup of carpet shampoo to the bucket and stir in cool water.
- Dip a sponge or cloth into the mixture and apply the mixture to the soiled and stained areas.
- Leave the mixture on the areas for approximately 15 minutes so that the road salt has time to dissolve.
- Blot the affected areas with a clean cloth to remove as much residue as possible. A shop vac will help remove any remaining residue as well.
- Continue to rinse the areas with cool, clean water until the shampoo and residue are removed.
- If residue or staining remains, mix one part white distilled vinegar with one part water, and repeat steps 4-7 above.
- Allow the interior to dry completely before use.
