Subaru Forester vs Ford Edge

A reliable SUV like the Subaru Forester or Ford Edge should deliver a capable performance, offer peace of mind, and have plenty of features to help you enjoy your drive. So, which one is right for you?

Prestige Subaru wants to help drivers in Turnersville, Cherry Hill, and Mount Laurel decide. We put them up against each other in this 2019 Subaru Forester vs. Ford Edge comparison.

2019 Subaru Forester vs Ford Edge Capability

The 2019 Subaru Forester delivers a dependable drive with standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This versatile drivetrain helps you in any situation with a Traction Control System and Hill Descent Control. The 2019 Ford Edge offers all-wheel drive, but front-wheel drive is standard.

On top of being reliable in any conditions, the Subaru also provides you with great fuel economy. It's Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) helps it get up to an EPA-estimated 26 MPG city and 33 MPG highway.

Unfortunately, you won't get the same efficient performance out of the Ford Edge. It doesn't have a CVT and can only get up to an EPA-estimated 19 MPG city and 26 MPG highway.

The Forester is just as versatile inside too. While both SUVs have a roomy interior with a large trunk and space for five people, the Subaru can carry more of your cargo. With the back seats folded down it offers up to 76.1 cubic feet of cargo room.  The Ford has a slightly smaller cargo hold with just 73.4 cubic feet of space.

2019 Subaru Forester vs Ford Edge Safety

The 2019 Subaru Forester builds on its standard all-wheel drive and keeps you safe with seven airbags. It also has lots of safety features that can help prevent accidents. The EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology system comes standard and looks out for your SUV with features like:

  • Pre-Collision Braking System
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management
  • Lane Departure and Sway Warning with Lane Keep Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

With its advanced airbag system, dependable drivetrain, and driver assistance features, the Subaru Forester has been named a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2019 Ford Edge also has seven airbags and offers lots of similar driver-assistance features. However, it wasn't able to earn the same safety rating from IIHS.

2019 Subaru Forester vs Ford Edge Infotainment System

To make your drive more fun and convenient, the 2019 Subaru Forester has a user-friendly infotainment system. The STARLINK™ Multimedia Plus system features a 6.5-inch touchscreen in your dashboard.

Here you'll have lots of options with SiriusXM® All Access Radio. Plus, the system lets you connect your smartphone to access your favorite music and apps. It's compatible with:

  • Bluetooth®
  • Apple CarPlay™
  • Android Auto™
  • Aha™ Smartphone App Integration

The 2019 Ford Edge also has an infotainment system, but its standard system has just a 4.2-inch LCD screen. While it's Bluetooth®-compatible, neither Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™ is available on the base trim.
