With all the new technologies in the new 2016 Subaru Legacy, it's hard to believe that its dashboard warning lights are still the most helpful resource for drivers. Being able to define the common symbols on the instrument panel helps you understand when your vehicle needs professional care.
But since there are so many symbols, it's difficult to stay on top of what each light. Fortunately, Prestige Subaru has provided your guide to some of the common dashboard warning lights you can see in your 2016 Subaru Legacy.
Check Engine Light
The Check Engine Light in the 2016 Subaru Legacy is shaped like your vehicle's engine. When it's blinking, the engine is misfiring and is damaging the emission control system. If the light is steady, then the emission control system is malfunctioning. In either situation, it's best to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional as soon as possible to avoid excessive damage under the hood.
At Oil Temp Light
Subaru Legacy models equipped with the Lineatronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) have a light that says "AT OIL TEMP" on their dashboard. This can activate when you start your vehicle, but should disappear after a second. If it's still on, then it's likely your transmission fluid is getting too hot. In this instance, you'll want to schedule a transmission service straight away as hot fluids under the hood can cause your engine to dangerously overheat.
Low Tire Pressure Warning Light
When any one of your tires start to go flat, you'll see what looks like the side of your tire with an exclamation point in the center of it on your dashboard. This is the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light. It works with the Tire Pressure Warning System to let you know when you need to inflate one or more of your Subaru Legacy's tires. Check your tire pressure and inflate your tires then, the light should disappear.
All-Wheel Drive Warning Light
Those who own Legacy models equipped with Lineatronic® CVT will see a light that says "AWD." This warns you that one or more of your tires are not properly sized for your Legacy. It can also activate if you're using the temporary spare tire. The second you see this light appear, you'll need to have your tires checked and replaced for a set that's right for your car. If you don't, you could experience severe damage in the suspension system and other parts in the drivetrain.
Charge Warning Light
The Charge Warning Light is most commonly referred to as the battery light and looks like a vehicle battery. It activates when the charging system is not working properly or when mean alternator belt is loose, worn or broken.
Brake Warning Light
When you see the word "BRAKE" on your dashboard, you need to first check your parking brake. This light is the first thing that let you know when it's active. If you notice that the parking brake is off, but the light is still on, then your vehicle can be suffering from a malfunction in the brake system or insufficient levels of brake fluid. These issues can negatively affect your safety, so when you see this symbol, schedule a brake service immediately.
